The Thing by Nathan Fairbairn

Sad Ben Grimm walking in Central Park on a cold winter night, feeling sorry for himself. This was supposed to be just a rough value study for a finished digital painting, but somehow it's Sunday night again and this is as far as it's gotten. So whatever. Now it's a finished piece, I guess. I think I prefer it rough like this anyway.

With respect to Mr. Alex Toth, from whose model sheets I have taken the design and pose of our ever-lovin' blue-eyed hero.

Now I can't say for sure since I haven't seen the polished version, but this style seems somehow fitting. powerful stuff. Great work!

Nathan, this is absolutely gorgeous. Definitely a finished piece - so stylish and atmospheric. *shakes fist* Damn you Fairbairn!

Two weeks in a row and we get two gorgeous snow-centric images (Andy's Snow Batman last week and this beaut).

Lovely work, sir!

That's absolutely beautiful, Nathan. It captures not only Ben so well but New York City as well.

Very nice. I love seeing superheroes in non-superheroic situations like this. It adds depth. Speaking of which I love how background fades out in the snow.

So moody and melancholic. And the way you rendered the depth with the different tones of the tree, just wonderful, Nathan :)

Cheers,
