DAN DARE by Francesco Francavilla
(click on the above image for larger view)
Darn it! Yet another cool character to draw: these guys are killing me with their picks :P
Cut some time in between coloring Green Hornet Year One pages (did you pick up #1 yesterday? I colored the book over Campbell's art and Wagner's plot :)) to do some drawin' for the TWART and this is what came out of it. I guess I am still digging in the attic for those old magazine vibes ;)
Cheers,
Francesco

One word...FUN! I dig it man. Nice Job.
One of my favourite characters, and you totally did him justice. :)
Classic and perfectly sells the feel of the character. If I saw this cover, I would immediately pick this up, especially at 50 cents.
This is great, Francesco! I'm always blown away by your design sensibilities. :)
Yeah, I kinda hate you for whipping up these mock covers like it's nothn'!!
Great job, bro! I love the shit out of this shit!
Mike
Thank you all, you sweet sweet people :)
Jake: FUN indeed :D
Simon: glad to get the British Approval stamp on this :)
Scott: yeah, I thought 50c was a pretty darn cool deal ;)
Laura: that's just my past coming into play :)
Mike: wow, that makes $hit square! :D
Cheers,
Francesco
I really like the newer version man. Not that there was anything wrong with it before, or anything.
I love your work Francesco, and this piece is no exception.
One thing that's bugging me as a graphic designer, though, is the use of Arial. It's anachronistic with the 50's aesthetic as Arial was designed in the 80's, and it's just not a very attractive typeface. I would recommend using something like Futura or Franklin Gothic to help match the aesthetic established by the other elements.
Anyway, just a small thing. Great work as always.

It's Dare-iffic!
Beautiful work, Mr F!
Thank you so much, Dec and Dan: once again, coming from artists who grew up with this character it means high praise :)
Ryan: Thank you so much and I totally agree with you (even if I didn't know Arial was that recent as a font). I was a little tight on time last week so I took the easy road to just type things in instead to hand lettered it. Will definitely go back and fix that if I ever decide to put this in print.
Cheers,
Francesco
Beautiful cover treatment, Francesco.
I love it.
Thank you, Ron :D
Cheers,
Francesco
