G.I. ROBOT by Mr. Hawthorne
I'm one of those guys that didn't know about G.I. ROBOT before this assignment. I actually asked Tom if he made it up, thinking it was a joke.
Then I saw an image of G.I. ROBOT fighting a dinosaur and thought, "yeah, that's for me" ;)
Apparently Chris thought the same thing. Zeitgeist, I tell you! :)
Anyway, hope you dig it.
Best,
Mike
PS - I'll post the process later this week over on my blog.

You guys picked one of my absolute favorite childhood characters this week. This is beautiful work! I can remember reading through my Dad's comics when I was little and getting totally freaked out by J.A.K.E. That robot stuck with me. I'm glad to see him being used (ever so slightly) in comics again.
beautiful work mike. this would be a sweet cover, very iconic. :)
WONDERFUL shot, Mike, it seems it could be the following shot to Chris' one :). Gorgeous inks too :)
Cheers,
Francesco
Francesco is right, it totally feels like the panel after Samnee's!
1. The dinosaur is damn perfect.
2. JAKE screams badass
3. The white blood and heavy white on the rocks is inspired! You absolutely nailed the rendering!
Excellent textures Mike, as always.
This is so great, Mike. The drawing is fantastic, I love the inking as well, and the Miller-esque white blood is perfect. Man, it would be a lot of fun to add color to this one.
God, there's so much work in this one... i'm getting tired just looking at it!
Lovely work sir. I'm waiting patiently for you to do a terrible Twart piece. It's bound to happen eventually... right...?
Thanks everyone! You guys are all too kind.
This did take longer then I expected. I wanted to paint it, but thought it would take too long, but after starting inks it hit me that inking it was taking longer then it would have to paint!
Oh well...
Mike
I officially hate you more than ever!
Good. Then my work here is done :)
That poor farking dinosaur...!
Outstanding piece, Mr H!
Thanks, Dan! :)
You made Jake look like such a badass here. This is the quintessential slow-mo "walking away after you kill a murderous dinosaur" scene.
HA! Thanks man! :)
Mike
PS - I think I love your avatar ;)
